Brief Notes - UMMen Leadership Council Meeting
United Methodist Men leaders from local fellowships, district officer and conference officers gathered on Saturday February 16 at the United Methodist Children's Home in Decatur GA for 2013's first Leadership Council Meeting and Training Event. Thirty-one men were in attendance with many regrets received following the rescheduling of the meeting after the passing of Bud Sears.
The meeting opened with a Prayer by Norman Johnson, Past President. A moment of silence acknowledged the passing of Bud Sears. Cary Loesing provided a devotion encouraging men to be servants in Christ.
Business items:
- Meeting Secretary elected. Louis Johnson volunteer and unanimously approved to ensure the business meeting minutes are recorded
- Treasurer Report provided by Ira Pence indicated that the Conference UMMen are solvent with funds available to support the ministries. The results of the audit committee, formed at the 2012 Annual Business meeting reported that the books are in order, with all funds reconciled. Ira provided 2012 end of year report.
- Cary Loesing unanimously elected as Conference President to complete the unexpired term. Rev. Dan Brown, Cabinet Representative to UMMen and Griffin District Superintendent facilitated the process, bringing forth the recommendation of the Executive Committee, and calling for nominations from the floor.
- 2013 Budget Approved for the United Methodist Men of the North Georgia Conference. Treasurer Ira Pence presented the proposed budget which included the expanded Ministry Areas, created by adoption of Strategic Ministry Plan at 2012 Annual Business Meeting.
- Annual Business Meeting Date Set for Saturday April 27, 2013. It will be in the Atrium Conference Room, United Methodist Center at Simpsonwood from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
