Messages from Rev. Carey Gibson
I must share that God has really been moving in my heart concerning Rock Eagle the last several weeks. I really believe that God is blessing us and that the weekend will be very special for all who attend. One thing that my recent battle with cancer revealed to me is the absolute importance of a genuine relationship with and not just knowledge of or acquaintance with Christ. Paul's relationship with and knowledge of Jesus is what made him a true warrior. In our theme scripture (eph 6:10-20) Paul writes "so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." How many of us have a relationship with God that allows us first to truly stand our ground; and second how many of us have a relationship with God to brings us to the point of truly doing everything within our power and finally, once we have done everything within our power to continue to stand firm. That is an amazingly strong person formed through and amazingly strong relationship. David stood strong against Goliath, Paul stood strong against all that evil could throw at him: beatings, days in the sea, imprisonment, shipwrecks, and the list goes on. Jesus stood strong against the established church leadership to the point that they successfully conspired his execution - and when these three had done everything they continued to stand strong - this is the mark of a true warrior of Christ - Are we willing to take a stand for God - are we willing to pay the price it takes to stand firm. Does your relationship with God reach the standard of a true warrior - And opportunity will be offered to accept or mend ones relationship with God on Friday night. On Saturdaymorning we will look at a number of contemporary issues and situations and talk about how a warrior of Christ responds in the presence of evil and to ones who knowingly abuse their relationship with God and to those who don't know God. The life of Jesus and the armor of God will provide the basics for our solutions. Saturday evening we will talk about how we find the power to stand strong as a true warrior of Christ. We will look at illustrations from Paul's life and the teachings of Jesus. An opportunity will be given to respond to God by receiving the fullness of HIS power, the Holy Spirit. All true warriors need to be healed and whole so Sunday morning will be a time in which we offer healing and wholeness so that we may be prepared to face the days ahead and to stand strong and when we have done everything to continue to stand.
God has never touched my heart in the ways that he has in the past few weeks. I have never felt testimony flowing through my soul in this way. My battle with a cancer that is considered terminal because it kills more than 90% of those who have it within 24 months has changed me in some profound ways. It has caused me to truly weigh my life on the scales of God and has helped me to come to new understanding of the true power and strength that God has for God's people. I simply pray that God gives me the power, the words, the conviction, and the LOVE to say all that HE has placed on my heart in a way that the men present can really hear it and apply it to their relationship with God. I am absolutely stunned by the way God is working in me. I pray that we will all experience this together at Rock Eagle! These moments have been the most precious in my life and I only pray that my sharing of these will be in some way adequate to God's rich blessing!
Love you - pray for Rock Eagle, the men who will be coming, for a weekend that will bring a newness of understanding, and a fresh feeling of renewal and revival
I am excited because the spirit is moving within - I believe that God is going to fan the flames as never before
2013 North Georgia Annual Conference Mission Project
UMCOR Cleaning Buckets
Sponsored by the United Methodist Women & United Methodist Men of the North Georgia Conference
In Memory of William E. "Bud" Sears, III
In less than 2 hours, the delegates to the North Georgia Annual Conference assembled 518 UMCOR Cleaning Buckets! Thank you! We also give thanks to all the churches who provided the needed cleaning bucket supplies and brought them to the Classic Center in Athens or sent them via their delegates. This is an example of how we can do so much more together through our connections than we can alone.
The Conference Youth delegates also joined in the assemble project! One of the youth produced the short video below.
The assembled cleaning buckets will be distributed through the Untied Methodist Committee on Relief into disaster areas.
A joint mission project with the United Methodist Women and United Methodist Men of the North Georgia Conference came about following a conversation in the fall of 2012 between Sue Raymond, UMW president and Bud Sears, then UMM conference president. Following Bud's death in January of this year, it was decided to honor Bud's memory with this project. The success of this project opens the door for future joint UMW / UMM mission projects.
